The heart of New Orleans healthcare.
The heart of New Orleans healthcare.
Both now and in the future.
At LCMC Health, our mission is rooted in service to this incredible city and its people. Our commitment to Greater New Orleans is unwavering—and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
Every day, in ways seen and unseen, we’re showing up with purpose and heart to ensure our community has access to the care it needs and deserves. But we’re more than exceptional hospitals and skilled medical teams.
We are a steady presence - a family of doctors, nurses, pharmacists, researchers, and administrators—united in our calling to uplift and advance the health and well-being of the place we call home.
- We invest in and deliver the high-quality care all community members relay on.
- We train more future healthcare professionals than any other state program.
- Our FindHelp online platform connects community members with free or reduced-cost services, including food, housing, transportation, and healthcare.
It takes a lot, but we’re proud to give our all so that the people of New Orleans thrive.
Maintaining a pace others can’t match
As a nonprofit health system designed specifically for New Orleans, we fill critical gaps in care, but we can’t continue to do it alone.
We’ve stepped in where others could not to ensure every person, regardless of circumstance, can access necessary care. We deliver vital services and absorb significant, increasing and unreimbursed costs to make that possible.
But today, unsustainable payment and bad faith administrative practices from health insurers are pushing us to the brink—even as our health system focuses on cost efficiencies. The reality is simple: LCMC Health cannot continue to absorb higher costs, maintain the same access points, and invest as deeply into New Orleans without adequate support.
- We lose money on patient care frequently, absorbing 17% of the cost of what it takes to provide care to patients with Medicare or Medicaid insurance.
- LCMC Health is currently owed $1.1B in payment across all commercial health insurers, with $400M remaining unpaid for over 90 days.
- Each year, these same insurers deny over 100,000 claims submitted by our healthcare providers and medical staff—a volume that represents ~$500M gross dollars. It costs LCMC Health ~$30M annually to recover what we are rightfully owed.
Partnering to protect care
We’re not asking for special treatment. We’re asking for fair treatment.
LCMC Health is a cornerstone of healthcare for New Orleans and a beacon of access. While we are proud of our nonprofit commitment to our great city, there are still financial realities we have to manage in order to continue our mission. Without our hospitals and doctors, access to care close to home would be drastically reduced. But to continue showing up in the ways our communities have come to rely on, we need health insurers to step up for our community in a fraction of the way that we have—recognizing our vital role and providing the support necessary to sustain it.
The future of healthcare in our city depends on it.
Show your support
New Orleans deserves a healthcare system designed for our city. Over the years, we’ve been proud of our steady presence and expansion into areas others could not maintain. But if health insurers continue to make it difficult for us to deliver the care people rely on, it’s going to look a lot different for local patients.
