LCMC Health and United Healthcare reach an agreement.
Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the update on LCMC Health’s negotiations with UnitedHealthcare?
LCMC Health and UnitedHealthcare have reached an agreement that keeps all LCMC Health hospitals, physicians, and specialists in-network. Patients covered by UnitedHealthcare can continue receiving care at LCMC Health as usual, without disruption.
When did this agreement take effect?
The verbal agreement was finalized ahead of the previous contract’s November 1, 2025, expiration date and maintains our in-network status. We have extended our contract to ensure you may continue seeking care at LCMC Health as you normally would and ensures uninterrupted access to care for UnitedHealthcare members across Greater New Orleans.
What does this mean for patients?
Patients don’t need to take any action. You can continue to see your LCMC Health providers, schedule appointments, and receive care exactly as before. There are no changes to your in-network status or benefits.
What changed under the new agreement?
The new agreement brings UnitedHealthcare’s reimbursement rates more in line with the true cost and complexity of care provided by LCMC Health. This ensures we can continue to recruit and retain staff, invest in new technology, and maintain affordable, high-quality care for our community.
Why was this negotiation important?
UnitedHealthcare’s payment rates and administrative hurdles made it difficult to sustain the level of care patients expect from LCMC Health. This new agreement ensures we can continue to deliver high-quality, affordable care, without forcing patients to travel farther or face higher costs.
How does this benefit the community?
LCMC Health is the region’s safety-net provider and largest nonprofit health system, reinvesting millions annually into local programs, services, and workforce development. Fair, sustainable reimbursement allows us to keep care local, expand access, and serve more families.
